Wakelyns is a national treasure

In this short video from Outhouse Films, Chris Packham, Josiah Meldrum, Sheila Das, Lucy MacLennan and others talk about why you should support Wakelyns.

Wakelyns is a pioneering agroforestry farm established by Martin and his wife Anne in 1994. Its combination of trees and crops has become a research site demonstrating diverse and sustainable farming. Speakers describe it as a living laboratory where farmers, scientists, students and visitors can learn from experimentation and knowledge. Since inheriting the farm, David Wolfe and his wife Amanda have developed nine or ten stacked enterprises connected to food, learning, nature and community life. These include growing vegetables, catering, pressing heritage apples and working toward a more locally connected, closed-loop economy. The farm’s future is uncertain because David’s brother must sell his half share. A charitable community benefit society aims to buy that share, after which David will donate his own. The campaign seeks community investment to protect Wakelyns as a public-facing resource for research, education and sustainable farming into the future.
