National Organic Cereals is the UK’s largest one-day event dedicated to organic farming. It draws an audience made up of existing organic producers, those with an interest in finding out more about the opportunities in the sector, as well as experts and suppliers from across organic food and farming.

The day consists of practical, focused presentations, plenty of time to view the seed trials drilled especially for the event and to wander the extensive trade stands, as well as an organic, sit-down lunch for all ticket holders.

ORC’s Phil Sumption will be giving a presentation on Controlling weeds in organic systems. Nick Fradgley will be talking about ORC’s two wheat population plots on the farm and we will also have a stand there, so do come and say hello.

The 2013 event will be held on Mark and Liz Lea’s Green Acres Farm near Shifnal, Shropshire, on July 2.

Farm walk at National Organic Cereals 2012

The farm walk and crop trials are one of the
most popular features of the event

Mark and Liz produce a number of organic cereals, make compost from local authority collected green waste and run a herd of organic Hereford cattle.

They include educational access as part of their farm management plan and have a large amount of school visits to the farm – 52 in the last year!

It is a very interesting farm and farm business with a number of points that will be of keen interest to organic arable farmers and associate businesses. It is well located being in the Midlands region, near to a motorway and easy to find.

A great speaker line-up for 2013 includes Michael Marriage of Doves Farm. Charlotte Smith, of BBC Radio 4′s Farming Today, will chair the panel discussions and the farm walk will take in aspects including agri-environment schemes, seed varieties and practical demonstrations.

It’s a valuable and popular day out that has become a firm fixture in the organic calendar with delegates coming from around the UK and across the European Union.

NOC is traditionally over-subscribed, so please make a note of the date in your diary. Booking forms will be available in the coming weeks.
