How to incentivise diverse and climate-resilient farming systems?

On 2 September 2026, IFOAM Organics Europe, together with the project OrganicClimateNET, FiBL, Justus Liebig University Giessen and FIRAB will organise a discussion at the European Parliament and online on the role of organic farming in strengthening the climate resilience of European agriculture and exchange perspectives on the forthcoming integrated framework for European climate resilience and risk management.

Andreas Gattinger (Justus Liebig University Giessen) will present how climate-resilient farming systems can be built and the contribution that organic farming can make to enhancing long-term resilience. Marco van Liere, organic farmer,  will complement by sharing practical experience and demonstrating how resilience is implemented at farm level.

The discussion will then turn to the design of an effective climate resilience and risk management framework for agriculture, with a particular focus on how long-term resilience can be incentivised through organic farming. Bringing together policymakers, practitioners and civil society representatives will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas on policies that can better equip European agriculture to face growing climate risk.
