Join this Organic Research Centre and Organic Growers Alliance (OGA) webinar to learn about the composting techniques to boost soil and crop health. Learn directly from researchers, growers and a farmer sharing their top tips and findings.
The regenerative agriculture revolution and growing enthusiasm for farming practices that support healthy soils has fuelled an interest in using compost to build healthy soils and crops. There are a variety of approaches for making compost on-farm and in the garden, coupled with a myriad of ways to apply the products of composting to the land. The Feed the Soil project, supported by the Progressive Farming Trust, aimed to dig into novel methods of compost production to provide guidance to farmers and growers on the best way to process their organic wastes for soil and crop improvement on their own farms.
Chaired and hosted by Organic Research Centre. Julia Cooper in collaboration with the Organic Growers Alliance will showcase the findings of the Feed the Soil project. She’ll introduce the six different methods for making compost, highlighting the pros and cons of each method in terms of carbon emissions, costs, effects on soil health and production impacts. Findings of the project will be presented alongside real-life experiences from Pete Richardson, grower at Eastbrook farm, Adam Beer, Pitney Farm Market Garden, and Andrew Barbour, Fincastle Farm, Scotland. We’ll enjoy a lively discussion on the pros and cons of windrow, Johnson-Su, bokashi and other novel ways to add value to organic inputs on farm and in the market garden.
