On-farm biostimulants and closed-loop soil health

Event Date : August 6, 2026

Event Time : 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

Event Location : Pollybell Farms Carr Road Gringley on the Hill DN10 4SN

Explore farm-made biostimulants and closed-loop soil health at scale at this Soil Association event at Pollybell Farm.

How can large commercial farms transition away from purchased biological inputs and move toward truly agroecological, farm-made soil amendments? Join the Soil Association this summer at Pollybell Farm for an in-depth exploration of biostimulants within a closed-loop farming system—demonstrated at commercial scale.

This event will showcase how a major organic vegetable and arable enterprise is strengthening its soil biology using materials produced entirely on the farm. Rather than relying on imported microbial products or costly commercial biostimulants, Pollybell is pioneering a locally adapted, circular, and biologically resilient approach.

Thank you to John Taylor (Farms Director) and Pollybell Farms for hosting this event.

Agenda

10:30 – Arrival, Tea & Coffee
Welcome and introduction.

11:00 – Making Biostimulants on Farm at Scale
Find out how Pollybell Farm produces its own biostimulants using farm-grown materials, reducing reliance on bought-in products.

11:30 – Getting Biostimulants to Work in the Field
An overview of practical application methods, timings, and equipment used on large vegetable and arable systems.

12:00 – Farmer Q&A and Discussion
Open floor for questions about costs, labour, equipment, and results in commercial cropping systems.

12:30 – Lunch & Farmer Networking
A chance to talk with other growers and share experiences.

13:30 – Farm Walk: Soil Systems in Practice
See the systems behind the approach:

  • Pyrolysis plant – turning farm residues into useful inputs
  • Composting systems – how organic materials are processed to build soil fertility.
