The Prince of Wales’s Food and Farming Summer School has been held since 2007, initially at Duchy Home Farm, Tetbury and Highgrove and subsequently at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. This year, we are again honoured that His Royal Highness has invited the Organic Research Centre to organise the 2014 Food and Farming Summer School, following a very successful event in 2013.
The Summer School is inspired by The Prince of Wales’s leadership and keen interest over many years in environmental sustainability and the importance of supporting the wider farming community. The Prince of Wales has been personally involved in the development of the programme, with part of the summer school being held at HRH’s Duchy Home Farm.
The Summer School engages leading individuals from farming, food businesses, research, government and non-governmental organisations in addressing the challenges of producing sufficient food sustainably, to meet not just the requirements of current but also of future generations. It seeks to grapple with the complexity of the issues, providing unique insights in an integrated framework where biological systems, physical resources, economic realities and social, ethical and policy issues and perspectives are brought into contact with each other. The issues are addressed by leading experts in a discursive approach, where they are not only presenting but also participating in discussions throughout the event.

If you are 26 or under, resident in Berkshire and training (student/apprentice) to or starting a career in agriculture, you may qualify for one of our Gordon Palmer Memorial Trust bursaries.
Bursary funding is also available from the Greenham Common Trust for young people (aged 18-26) from West Berkshire who are registered on an existing FE/HE course in agriculture, horticulture or related topic, or engaged in a relevant work-experience placement or apprenticeship scheme, or at an early stage of a career in a food or farming related business.
