Team profile
Giulia standing in a field

Giulia Zoe Kessous

I’m deeply motivated by the vision of a fairer food and farming system – ecologically and socially. Research in organic farming is vital to exploring collective solutions.

Job title:

Assistant Researcher – Crops and Agronomy

Academic qualifications:

  • Master’s in Environmental law and Ecology (University of Rennes)
  • Law Double degrees: Bachelor of Laws in English and French law//Master’s in International and European Law (Bangor University// University of Toulouse 1)

Role and responsibilities:

My role involves carrying out research in the fields of agronomy and ecology, as part of the Crop Diversity and Agronomy research programme.

Research interests:

My main work focuses on understanding and developing more sustainable methods for organic and low-input cereal production by integrating varietal evaluation, cropping systems surveys and management innovations, as part of the LIVESEEDING project. I also support our soil systems projects which focus on organic matter management and compost systems as well as fertiliser efficiency.

I am particularly interested in participatory research and in co-developing solutions that support a fairer land and food system for both people and nature.

Interests outside of ORC:

You will often find me out in the field when the sun’s out – lambing, milking, running, or just contemplating cows grazing and birds nesting. When it’s not, I am taking theatre classes, dancing or diving into hot chocolate-fueled reading sessions, from novels to political essays.
