‘Feed the soil, not the plant’ has long been an organic mantra, and today, regenerative farmers everywhere are looking for the best ways to supercharge their soil biology. But with so many voices extolling the virtues of bokashi, vermicomposting, hot compost, and Johnson-Su bioreactors, it can be incredibly difficult to separate fact from fantasy.

Want to cut through the noise and figure out what works for your farm? Come meet the Feed the Soil project team first-hand at Groundswell!
We invite you to drop by the Soil Medic Tent to speak directly with Dr. Julia Cooper and Giulia Kessous. They will be on hand to share exactly what the project has achieved, talk through our findings, and help you look at the hard evidence. We’ll be available to have chats about the first results we have on the different compost types, understanding the different approaches and try to identify different characteristics. You will be able to see and smell the composts as we’re bringing samples from farms we’re working with (6 different ones!).
We will also be taking part in the Soil Surgeries at 1:00PM – 1:55PM each day with the Land Gardeners. An informal opportunity for one-to-one advice from a brilliant range of farmers and soil experts. Drop-in for troubleshooting, guidance, and solutions on how best to feed your soil. Drop-in for troubleshooting, guidance, and solutions on how best to feed your soil. This is a chance to visit our table and get some 1:1 advice on composting on your farm.
Six organisations (Landworkers’ Alliance, CSA Network UK, UK Fruit and Vegetable Coalition, Ecological Land Cooperative, Landmatch England & Organic Growers Alliance) have come together to host the Agroecology Tent at Groundswell this year represent a diverse movement of grassroots groups working to promote agroecology, grow the sector, and bring about systemic change in our food and farming system. The aim of the tent is to open up discussions in the regenerative farming movement about the social justice and political aspects of our food and farming system which are often overlooked in mainstream narratives about the agricultural transition. Host organisations will be promoting their various projects and campaigns related to access to land, food justice, alternative farm models, and empowering people from diverse backgrounds to enter farming and food production.
Join Emergent Generation @ Groundswell 2026. They will be having their own marquee for meet ups, downloads, opportunity sharing, mini workshops and youth-led sessions. They’ve designed the area especially for young people passionate about food, farming and the environment for two days of connection, inspiration and knowledge sharing. Keep an eye out on Em Gen comms for further details as the sessions won’t be advertised in the main programme. Subsidised tickets and bursaries are available for members 18-35 yrs (tip; join Em Gen for free).
