A new paper from the AGROMIX project, led by Maria Raimondo with ORC’s Rowan Dumper-Pollard cited as a co-author, looks at what influences farmers’ decisions to adopt and maintain agroforestry.

It builds on wider AGROMIX work looking at why adoption of agroforestry and mixed farming can remain difficult even where the benefits are well understood. That work highlighted the importance of practical and economic barriers – including long investment periods, labour and skills requirements, access to appropriate advice, and value chains that do not always reward the wider benefits these systems provide – while the new paper adds further insight into how different farmers respond to different policy and market conditions.
