Survey on the European organic seed and breeding sector

LiveSeeding – Organic seed and plant breeding to accelerate sustainable and diverse food systems in Europe is a 4-year Innovation Action funded by the European Union, the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The project started in October 2022 and brings together 37 organisations operating in 15 European countries. LiveSeeding provides science-based evidence and best practice solutions to help achieve 100 % organic seed.

The main aim of the survey is to detect technical, economic and regulatory challenges that organic seed producers face, and to analyse market opportunities that new organic trends are imposing for 2023 and upcoming years. The survey is intended for:

  • organic seed producers/traders
  • conventional seed producers/traders that plan to produce/trade organic seeds in the future

It is important to note that the results of this survey will be used to analyse the current state of the organic seed market in Europe and:

  • to prepare business models and plans with the aim of strengthening small and medium sized organic seed enterprises at the local level
  • to detect and list funding opportunities for the organic seed and plant breeding sector
  • to develop trainings on organic seed and breeding entrepreneurship

During the previous LIVESEED project, a similar survey was conducted, so please see a summary of its key outputs and results here.

Thank you for your participation and contribution!

This will take approximately 20 minutes!
