Organic growing where soil is not an option

Although Garden Organic would always recommend growing directly in the ground wherever possible, we recognize that growing in containers is common practice in in some organic
gardens, often to make good use of small spaces and to enjoy an extended growing season. For some growers, especially those in inner city areas, growing directly in the soil is sometimes not
even an option. To ensure that the benefits of organic growing can be enjoyed also in these situations, it is important that we continue to develop and adapt new growing systems, ensuring
that they are still in line with the organic principles. Growing in containers should be acceptable practice in some situations, as long as appropriate growing media, size/type of containers and
supplementary feeding regimes are being used.
