Countryfile: Devon silvopasture trial

BBC One’s flagship country lifestyle magazine Countryfile will feature the Devon silvopasture research that is planned to last for 12 years and which involves a group of livestock farmers trialling three different silvopasture designs created by the Woodland Trust.

The group are an Innovative Farmers field lab with Luke Dale-Harris (FWAG-South West) as the coordinator and ORC’s Lindsay Whistance as the researcher (livestock benefits) and another FWAG-South West person looking at insects. Alongside this, North Wyke have external funding to look at flora/fauna changes and soil carbon changes over time. For the Countryfile episode, one farmer (Andy Gray) and Luke were filmed on Andy’s farm and Lindsay and Rob Dunn (Rothamsted) were filmed at North Wyke, where they have planted all three designs. Lindsay spoke about the livestock benefits and Rob spoke about the ecology benefits
